Boston Ballet’s spring season continues to sizzle as two timeless performances come to the Boston Opera House this month. First, from May 11–19, is an encore presentation of last season’s production of Marius Petipa (with an assist from Sir Frederick Ashton) and Tchaikovsky’s version of the classic fairy tale, The Sleeping Beauty (pictured). Next, from May 17–June 9, is a repertory program showcasing the work of choreography icon George Balanchine titled (what else?) Classic Balanchine. This show features three pieces, including Balanchine’s early story ballet Prodigal Son, which debuted with the Ballets Russes in 1929 and melds moves inspired by the circus and gymnastics with classical ballet.
