The Institute of Contemporary Art was a benchmark addition that helped spur interest in the now-booming South Boston waterfront/Seaport District when its new facility debuted there in 2006. The ICA hopes to work that same magic among the burgeoning wharf developments on the other side of Boston Harbor with the recent debut of the ICA Watershed in East Boston. This satellite gallery—introduced with much fanfare by the ICA leadership and local politicians who helped champion the project (many of whom are pictured above at the June 22 ribbon cutting)—features an exhibit on local history, work by local students and a dazzling display of large-scale video installations by pioneering L.A.-based artist Diana Thater. Experience the excitement for yourself by taking a short ferry ride from the ICA or a brief stroll from the Maverick stop on the Blue Line.
