High 5: New Year’s Eve Events

Our tips for ringing in 2023 in memorable fashion

First Night Boston 2023: The granddaddy of all free NYE arts celebrations across the country, First Night welcomes the return of its traditional parade from Copley Square to Boston Common, along with dozens of family-friendly performers, ice sculptures and two fireworks displays (one on Boston Common at 7 p.m. and one over Boston Harbor at midnight) at locales around the Back Bay and Downtown.

Kicks & Confetti Ball: Time Out Market Boston in the Fenway “kicks” off its NYE party at 9 p.m., encouraging revelers to don their favorite snazzy sneakers for this 21+ bash that includes a photo booth, tarot card readings, a live DJ, a $40 food card for use at any of the food hall’s outstanding eateries and, of course, a Champagne toast at midnight.

New Year’s Eve Casino Royale (pictured): One of the Hub’s other standout food halls, Downtown’s High Street Place, hosts this chic evening featuring appetizers, drinks and dancing, along with just-for-fun casino table games like blackjack, roulette and craps. Live music, a DJ, complimentary makeovers and swag bags are also part of the proceedings, further electrifying the atmosphere.

New Year’s Celebration: Add some class to New Year’s Eve with Boston Baroque’s annual concert, which takes place at the GBH Calderwood Studio in Brighton at 8 p.m. The program, led by Martin Pearlman, includes Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 6 and Telemann’s Concerto in E minor for Recorder and Flute. If you miss the evening show, head over to the Sanders Theatre in Cambridge’s Harvard Square the following afternoon at 3 p.m. for a classical start to 2023.

Will Evans & Barefoot Truth—New Year's Eve!: Get 2023 started on a positive note when City Winery hosts this 8 p.m. concert headlined by the New England-based roots rockers, who blend folk, rock and reggae with a message that seeks to connect humankind both with each other and Mother Earth.
