Among the multitude of free events hosted by Faneuil Hall Marketplace this summer, the Massachusetts-based band Cardinal Direction for Contra Dancing is hosting lessons under the star speckled sky in the South Market. Never heard of Contra dancing? Most people haven't. The folk dance is similar to a Square Dance, except instead of the square formation, it is danced in lines of couples, with every other couple facing up or down the hall. Who knew a dance could get more linear than Square Dancing? Lessons begin at 6p.m. and dancing with live music runs from 6:30p.m. - 8p.m. Lessons are free and part of the Lounge at Faneuil Hall Marketplace where a new style of dance is featured every fourth Tuesday of the month. Rumor has it Salsa will be the next month's dance.
