
This autumn lights up with special cinematic showcases all season long
Boston Film Festival (pictured): The 41st edition of the city’s biggest tribute to the silver screen takes place September 18–22 at venues in and around the Boston area. Highlights include four world premieres, appearances by filmmakers, and both live action and animated shorts programs, as well as a virtual option for those who want to view at home.
Taiwan Film Festival of Boston: From September 19–25, the Museum of Fine Arts, Coolidge Corner Theatre, Brattle Theatre and AMC Causeway 13 share hosting duties for this celebration of some of the finest films both new and old to come from the island nation. There’s even a welcome reception on September 21 from 6–8:30 p.m. at North Station’s citizenM hotel, as well as an online iteration of the festival running from September 26–October 12.
CineFest Latino Boston: This third annual presentation of stories amplifying the voices of the Latin American community takes place September 24–28 at the Coolidge Corner Theatre, Museum of Fine Arts and ArtsEmerson’s Emerson Paramount Center, with a free, family-friendly shorts program taking place at the Boston Public Library on September 27. Speaking of free, there’s even a preview screening at Zumix in East Boston on September 18.
GlobeDocs Film Festival: Now in its 11th year, this champion of non-fiction cinema runs October 22–26 at various venues, with the usual array of diverse and riveting offerings followed by discussions with filmmakers, Boston Globe journalists and other special guests.
Boston Jewish Film Festival: The 37th annual tribute to the latest international masterpieces championing Jewish culture and identity—including 14 features, a short film competition and animated shorts—screens November 5–16 in real life at several area theaters and November 17–19 virtually.
