Revel in the spookiest time of year at one of these eerie excursions
Beacon Hill with a BOO!: Boston By Foot’s beloved annual jaunt through the confines of one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods if filled with both delightful decorations and terrifying tales of the area’s past. Multiple tours run from 5–7 p.m. on Halloween night and sell out fast, so be sure to book before slots disappear like the specters of yesteryear.
Boston Ghost Tour: This one-hour exploration of the Hub’s dark history—which can be extended by a half-hour for an extra fee—departs nightly at 8 p.m. from the Tremont Street side of Boston Common. The operator, Boston Ghosts, also features a two-hour Haunted Pub Crawl for adults that runs every evening in October and beyond beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Freedom Trail Lantern Tour: Experience history and horror by moonlight Thursday–Saturday at 6 p.m. at the famed trail’s Downtown historic sites with a darkly cloaked and costumed Freedom Trail Player, who reveals both grim and mysterious anecdotes about the city’s most storied sites.
Ghosts & Gravestone (pictured): Both walking and trolley tours are available from this longtime leader of scary sightseeing in the city. Stops include two historic graveyards, the (supposedly) haunted Omni Parker Hotel and more.
The Ghosts of Boston Tour: Ninety-minutes of hair-raising fun is in store for patrons of this all-ages trip that starts every night at 8 p.m. and explores the legends surrounding Boston’s cemeteries, historic homes and spectral streets. Adults can also opt for the two-hour Haunted Pub Crawl and the more intense, 90-minute Death and Dying Ghost Tour, which both start at 9 p.m.
