Run For Glory

Despite Boston’s status as a sports-crazed town, some locals may be unaware that one of the most prominent events on the indoor track and field calendar calls Beantown home. The New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, born as the Boston Indoor Games in 1996, features some of the top professional runners from around the world, including the number one-ranked women’s 1,500 meter competitor, Jenny Simpson (pictured), who looks to break the U.S. indoor record in the two-mile event. On the men’s side, two-time Olympic medalist and 2007 world champion Bernard Lagat returns to the Grand Prix for the first time since 2010, when he broke the U.S. indoor record in the 5,000 meter event. This time, the 40-year-old is looking to break the master’s record for 3,000 meters. This all takes place at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center on the campus of Roxbury Community College (1350 Tremont St., Roxbury Crossing) on February 7 beginning at 4:30 p.m. For tickets, call 877-849-8722 or visit nbindoorgrandprix.com.
