Enjoy everything from blossoms to baseball as the Hub starts to warm
The Greenway Carousel: Already open for the season, the Rose Kennedy Greenway’s colorful, custom-made collection of ride-worthy native animals (lobsters, turtles and butterflies, oh my!) offers low-cost thrills for kids of all ages right in the heart of the Hub Wednesday to Sunday from 11 a.m.–6 p.m.
Boston Red Sox: Two big dates on the early-season calendar for local hardball fans are, of course, opening day—which falls on April 9 at 2:10 p.m. against the reigning American League East champion Baltimore Orioles—and the annual mid-morning Boston Marathon Monday game on April 15 versus the Cleveland Guardians. Other upcoming home series include the Los Angeles Angels (April 12–14) and Chicago Cubs (April 26–28). Can’t make the game? You can still visit the Sox’s beloved home by taking a Fenway Park Tour.
Swan Boats: The historic Boston Public Garden is the perfect site to spend a spring afternoon, especially beginning April 13, when the venerable, pedal-powered Swan Boats return to the lagoon to leisurely shuttle guests around the picturesque environs of America’s oldest public botanical garden.
Art in Bloom (pictured): This annual ritual at the Museum of Fine Arts makes its galleries even more colorful by pairing professional flower arrangements with 45 timeless masterpieces from April 26–28. Although the 10:30 a.m. session is sold out, visitors can still experience a master class in the art of arranging beautiful blossoms with expert Semia Dunne on April 27 at 2 p.m.
Lilac Sunday: Held every year on Mother’s Day, this celebration of the classically fragrant collection of more than 400 bushes at the Arnold Arboretum includes tours, children’s activities and a one-day-only chance to picnic at one of the Emerald Necklace’s most vibrant jewels. Come May 12 from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. for this event that has been bringing families joy since 1908.
