Thanks in part to a recent gift, Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) unveils a new exhibit featuring the early works of one of the most influential artists of the early 20th century, Dutch icon Piet Mondrian. From November 11, 2023–April 28, 2024, MFA patrons can explore Mondrian: Foundations, a collection of 11 paintings and 17 works on paper that emphasize the formative years of the trailblazer’s career, including an 1887 work Mondrian created when he was just 15 years old and the most recent work, a pivotal abstract creation from 1927 highlighting Mondrian’s familiar geometric style entitled Composition with Blue, Yellow and Red. Central to the show are masterpieces from the aforementioned gift, 24 of which are on display as part of this revealing exhibition of some of the finest Dutch artworks of that essential era in modern art history.
