Boston Ballet’s first production of the new year highlights three giants of modern dance
Boston Ballet’s first production of the new year, rEVOLUTION, highlights three giants who, as the title suggests, revolutionized 20th century dance by contributing elements of modernism to classical movements. No choreographer has had more of an impact on ballet in the past 100 years than George Balanchine, who is represented by 1957’s Agon, a classic collaboration with composer Igor Stravinsky. Glass Pieces, a 1983 work by Jerome Robbins that features the music of Philip Glass, follows, while the groundbreaking In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated—a 1987 piece by William Forsythe, one of today’s most innovative dance masters who is in the midst of a multi-year partnership with the company—closes a sure-to-be-thrilling evening of dance at the Citizens Bank Opera House beginning February 27.
