Shedding Expectations
John Akomfrah, Purple, 2017
After its successful debut last year, local art connoisseurs might have wondered what the ICA Watershed in East Boston—an offshoot of the cross-harbor Institute of Contemporary Art—would do for an encore. Speculate no more as the ICA recently revealed that acclaimed filmmaker and artist John Akomfrah’s work Purple—a six-channel video installation highlighting the issue of climate change through both archival and new footage—makes its U.S. premiere at its sister facility beginning May 26. Shuttles run from the ICA’s Seaport District home to the Watershed, where visitors can contemplate this hypnotic new piece for free.
