Federico García Lorca’s 1934 play Yerma, a portrait of a woman’s struggle to start a family, has stood the test of time. A new adaptation and translation by Huntington Theatre Company playwright-in-residence and Boston resident Melinda Lopez (pictured) takes the stage at the Boston Center for the Arts’ Calderwood Pavilion in the South End through June 30. Featuring original flamenco-inspired music by award-winning Broadway composer Mark Bennett, this premiere of the already powerful drama has been infused with new resonance by Lopez, who forged a connection with Lorca’s work while visiting family in Spain as a teenager.
