Beginning October 17, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum celebrates one of its most successful programs with the exhibit In the Company of Artists: 25 Years of Artists-in-Residence. Of the nearly 100 creators who have participated over the years, this display shines a spotlight on pieces created by seven outstanding female artists who briefly lived and worked at the museum, drawing inspiration from its hallowed halls, just as many artists—including the renowned John Singer Sargent, considered the Gardner’s first artist-in-residence—and performers did in the institution’s earliest days at the behest of Isabella Stewart Gardner herself. Other works from past participants are also interspersed throughout the museum’s halls, further enriching viewers’ experience.
