Designing Boston

Now in its 8th year and proceeding with COVID-19 safety protocols in place, Boston Design Week returns to dazzle Greater Boston by showcasing all kinds of innovative creations alongside the talented architects, interior designers, graphic designers and other craftspeople behind them. A wide array of online forums and lectures are available April 28–May 9, and the later spring dates for this year’s festivities have even allowed for a handful of outdoor events at which visitors can celebrate the best in the Hub’s creative community. In-person happenings include architecturally themed walking tours, a party celebrating the work of local landscape architects and SketchBoston, a gathering for artists of any skill level on the Rose Kennedy Greenway who desire to be inspired by the park’s beauty and put it down on paper. Not to be missed is the Boston Design Week Awards on May 7, a virtual gathering that hands out the 2021 Lifetime Achievement Award to Miguel Gómez-Ibáñez—a renowned cabinetmaker and former president of the North Bennet Street School in the North End—along with several other honors.
