The Boston area has seen its fair share of outstanding hockey players and games over the decades, especially at the college level, so it’s no surprise that the Hub’s TD Garden is this year’s locale for the annual Division I hockey tournament known as the NCAA 2022 Men’s Frozen Four. The 16-team contest to determine college hockey’s national championship team begins March 24, with the semi-final being held at the home of the Celtics and Bruins on April 7, with the finals following on April 9. One of the early rounds takes place in nearby Worcester, Mass., and features games by Boston’s Northeastern University and defending champs the University of Massachusetts (pictured). Overall, five teams from Massachusetts are in the four brackets, setting up the possibility of an all-local Frozen Four. Regardless of whether this unlikely scenario plays out, there’s sure to be some exciting ice heroics to witness this spring in Beantown.
