As many spring traditions have returned to Boston this year, from the Boston Marathon to baseball at Fenway Park, fans of symphonic music finally get their moment in the sun when the beloved Boston Pops come back to the stage at Symphony Hall for its new season. Highlights include opening night, May 19, and May 21, which feature Pops conductor Keith Lockhart (pictured) directing the music of Broadway and film composer Alan Menken and boast appearances by stars from the Great White Way; celebrations of the 90th birthday year of iconic film composer and former Pops conductor John Williams that include screenings of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone May 26 & 28 and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back June 2–4; and the 28th annual Gospel Night on closing night, June 11, led by conductor Charles Floyd with help from the Boston Pops Gospel Choir and Grammy Award-winner Smokie Norful.
