Boston’s Museum Boom

As the weather gets colder and folks focus more on indoor activities, it’s perhaps appropriate that two new museums are set to open in the upcoming weeks. Ensconced at Marketplace Center between Faneuil Hall Marketplace and the Rose Kennedy Greenway, the Boston outpost of the international phenomenon known as the Museum of Illusions (pictured) makes its Hub debut on November 23. This permanent attraction features displays unique to the city alongside other interactive installations that challenge visitors’ perceptions while entertaining them with mind-bending imagery that has to be seen to be believed.

Meanwhile, over in the Seaport, one of New England’s favorite treats gets its due beginning December 14 at the Museum of Ice Cream, the fifth U.S. location for this delicious institution dedicated to showcasing an immersive and colorful world—complete with its Hall of Freezers chock full of sweet delights, the famed Sprinkle Pool and more—where frozen goodness rules supreme. Expect plenty of local (ahem) flavor, including a baseball-themed carnival space inspired by Boston’s iconic Fenway Park along with delightful scoops and an exclusive salted vanilla fudge milkshake concoction created in conjunction with beloved regional ice cream maker/family restaurant Friendly’s that is available at the destination’s café and bar.
