Another annual spring tradition in these parts is the return of the legendary, NYC-based Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. This ground-breaking troupe, formed by its late namesake in 1958, was one of the first dance companies to prominently feature African-American artists. Today, it acts as a repository for Ailey’s work—including his signature piece, Revelations—as well as those of such famed choreographers as Ronald K. Brown, Paul Taylor and current artistic director Robert Battle.
