High 5: Halloween

Whether spooky, silly or savory, these spirited seasonal events are sure to please

Jerusha’s Halloween Ball: The historic, non-profit Wayside Inn in Sudbury hosts this charity soiree on October 29 from 7–10 p.m. that boasts costume contests, dancing, and a wine and bourbon “pull” (think of it as a very boozy raffle or bingo game, essentially) meant to raise some extra funds and provide some unique prizes as well.

A Historically Spooky Halloween: The Plimoth Patuxet Museums in Plymouth get in the spirit with this fall evening of family fun on October 29 & 30 from 5:30–7:30 p.m. Don your costume and either warm yourself by the fire or try your hand at 17th-century-themed games like gourd bowling, jumbo Nine Men’s Morris and the Pilgrim Hat Hoop Toss. Kids are treated to a gift bag of goodies to take home.

Bambara Kitchen & Bar: All weekend long, the dining hot spot at the Kimpton Marlowe Hotel features free outdoor screenings of family-friendly Halloween favorites at 7 p.m. (It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown on October 29; Hocus Pocus on October 30; and Beetlejuice on October 31), while adults dining at the restaurant can indulge in a special pumpkin cocktail on Saturday and complimentary chocolate truffle treats on Halloween night.

Doggone Halloween Parade (pictured): Pets get in on the revelry with this free costumed cavalcade for canines and their owners centered around the Summer Street plaza at Downtown Crossing on October 30 from noon–2 p.m. Prizes are available in several categories, yet all participants get treats just for entertaining the sure-to-be-delighted onlookers.

The Road of Rainbows: This first-ever LBGTQ+ 5K race takes place October 31 beginning at 3 p.m. on Boston Common. A fundraiser for the Boston Theater Company, the contest welcomes all to participate, so dig up your best costume and partake in this friendly competition. Runners receive a goody bag worth $50 and are invited to the after-party, ensuring the event is all treats with no tricks.
