Boston Calling Block Party Series: The three-day Boston Calling music festival may be over for the year, yet its namesake sibling is still active every Thursday night at Dewey Square across from South Station on the Rose Kennedy Greenway through August 25. Free live music from a host of local bands is accompanied by lawn games and a beer garden.

Summer in the City: Through August 26 on Tuesday through Friday nights, savor cool ocean breezes and spectacular views while taking in live music and more at the Boston Harbor Hotel on Rowes Wharf. The outdoor terrace is the perfect spot to enjoy a variety of rotating live music acts as they perform pop and soul on Tuesdays, songs from Sinatra and his Rat Pack cronies on Wednesdays and blues on Thursdays from a floating stage. Then unwind on Friday nights with free movies, culminating August 26 with a screening of Dune.

Fenway Summer Sessions: Two free music series—one curated by the Berklee College of Music on select Thursdays from noon–1:30 p.m. and Sound of Our Town from Redefined on Fridays from 4–7 p.m.—take place all summer long at the Green at 401 Park starting June 24. And Your Little Dog Too/Y Tu Perrito También (pictured): Chelsea's Apollinaire Theatre Company presents a free bilingual production of this locally set, comic version of The Wizard of Oz on Fridays and Saturdays through August 20. Beginning in Chelsea Square at 6 p.m. with live music and a beer garden from Everett's BearMoose Brewing Company, the event moves through the park and city streets inviting the audience to follow alongside the show's actors when the show commences at 7:30 p.m.

Romeo & Juliet: Boston Lyric Opera pairs up with Commonwealth Shakespeare Company for this musical re-telling of the classic love story, which comes to Boston Common August 11 & 13. This English translation based on Charles Gounod's 1867 version of the Bard's tale features a live orchestra as well as stunning operatic vocals from its diverse cast.
