Let music from one of Boston’s outstanding ensembles usher in your yuletide season

Boston Pops (pictured): The annual Holiday Pops concerts return to Symphony Hall December 1–24. Keith Lockhart and James Burton conduct all the festive favorites, including at a sensory-friendly performance and kids’ matinees that are highlighted by a visit from Santa, who comes bearing special treats.

Boston Baroque: The acclaimed classical music ambassadors present its annual performances of music director Martin Pearlman’s interpretation of Handel’s beloved Messiah, at both GBH’s intimate Calderwood Studio on December 3 at 7:30 p.m. and at New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall on December 4 at 3 p.m.

Handel & Haydn Society: Speaking of Messiah, Boston’s venerable orchestra has been presenting the inspiring oratorio in the Hub for 169 years. Hear what all the fuss is about at Symphony Hall November 25–27. For a double shot of holiday cheer, come back December 15 & 18 for A Baroque Christmas, which offers the sounds of Bach, Handel and Zelenka at nearby Jordan Hall.

Boston Gay Men’s Chorus: The organization’s first holiday concerts since 2019, entitled Joyful & Triumphant & Gay, features the usual traditional songs and modern classics. Jordan Hall hosts the group December 9, 16, 17 & 18.

Boston’s Children’s Chorus: See the next generation of choral music stars sing classical, jazz and Celtic tunes of the season at the GBH Music Holiday Celebration on December 15 at 6:45 p.m. at GBH Studios in Brighton. An opening reception even offers light refreshments and the opportunity to mingle with other holiday music lovers.
