Kick off the holidays in style with these illuminating extravaganzas
Faneuil Hall Marketplace Tree Lighting (pictured): The seasonal ceremony returns to the city’s premier shopping and dining destination on November 21 from 4–7 p.m. Revel in the festivities, highlighted by the illumination of a twinkling Norway spruce by Santa himself at 6 p.m.
Boston Common Tree Lighting: The 82nd annual tradition of inaugurating the yuletide in the heart of the Hub continues November 30 from 6–8 p.m., precipitated for the 52nd time by the November 21 arrival of a tree donated from Nova Scotia, which received critical relief assistance from the people of Boston after the tragic Halifax Explosion of 1917. Special guests include Mayor Michelle Wu, Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston, Santa and even Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
Light Up Seaport: The annual tree lighting on December 1—as well as the menorah lighting on December 10—shifts the season into high gear at this waterfront locale, which transforms into the winter extravaganza dubbed Snowport for the fifth time.
31 Nights of Lights: It may not be a tree, yet the peak of the Prudential Tower is lit up in different colors every night from December 1–31, with each evening’s hues corresponding to those of a different local non-profit organization.
Fenway Tree Lighting: An entire afternoon and evening of family fun takes place December 6 beginning with crafts and activities at the Fenway Community Center from 4:45–5:30 p.m. and continuing with a musical performance by Boston Children's Chorus prior to the tree lighting ceremony at the Kelleher Rose Garden from 6–6:45 p.m. Berklee College of Music's Grooversity then leads a Luminary Walk down Park Avenue, which culminates in a free community skate night at The Rink at 401 Park. Along with local dignitaries like Mayor Michelle Wu, expect appearances by Red Sox mascots Wally and Tessie, as well as more crafting activities and free waffles at The Station, which also hosts the Hanukkah-themed art installation Brighter Revealed.
