All’s Fair at the Fair

As the season barrels toward fall, two of eastern Massachusetts’ premier cool-weather happenings gear up for another year of delighting visitors with unique spectacles that create lasting memories. First up is King Richard’s Faire (pictured) in Carver on weekends and holidays through October 20. This 80-acre Renaissance-themed festival boasts plenty of food (including giant turkey legs, of course), beverages (craft beer, wine, mead, cocktails and non-alcoholic sips for the little ones) and games (axe throwing and archery, anyone?), as well as entertainment like live music and jousting tournaments fit for any king or queen in attendance. Later in autumn sees the return of the much-anticipated Topsfield Fair October 4–14. The country’s oldest agricultural fair offers a variety of delicious food, fun rides and dazzling, non-stop entertainment alongside exhibits and contests highlighting enormous pumpkins, racing pigs, diving dogs, milking cows and even more adorable animals, hearkening back to the fair’s roots as a farming showcase.
