Romancing The Hub

Follow your passion with five date ideas for Valentine’s weekend

For Art Lovers: For the first time in its history, Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts displays a painting by Austrian artist Gustav Klimt, thanks to the Visiting Masterpiece program that brings the sensuous work Adam and Eve to the Hub from Vienna’s Belvedere Museum. It has been paired with the MFA’s own 1913 masterwork, Two Nudes (Lovers), by Klimt colleague Oskar Kokoschka. While you’re there, check out the museum’s award-winning restaurant, Bravo.

For Theater Geeks
: Watch film icon Isabella Rossellini expound on the sex lives of spiders, sea creatures and more in Green Porno, Live on Stage in her one-woman show at the Emerson/Cutler Majestic Theatre (219 Tremont St., 617-824-8400, artsemerson.org). Just a block away, sup on fresh oysters at Legal Sea Foods’ Downtown location, Legal Crossing (558 Washington St., 617-692-8888, legalseafoods.com), which also offers a special three-course menu for Valentine’s Day weekend.

For Music Aficionados
: Get your classical music fix at New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall (30 Gainsborough St., 617-266-3605) when the Handel and Haydn Society performs works by Mozart and Beethoven February 13–15. For a special three-course, prix fixe dinner for concert-goers, head down Huntington Avenue to the Back Bay location of Lucca (116 Huntington Ave., 617-247-2400, luccabackbay.com), where options include carpaccio; fettuccine with wild mushrooms, garlic, pancetta and baby spinach; and tiramisu for dessert.

For Shopaholics: Take your sweetie shopping on Boston’s glamorous Newbury Street, where there’s no lack of shiny objects to buy at jewelers like the venerable Tiffany & Co. (5 Newbury St., 617-217-5778, tiffany.com), which opened its new Hub store here this past fall, and Boston’s own John Lewis. Dining options abound as well, including Tapeo, a sultry Spanish eatery serving authentic tapas perfect for sharing.

For Foodies
: Show your sophisticated side by taking the “Wine, Cheese & Charcuterie” class at Boston Center for Adult Education (122 Arlington St., 617-267-443, bcae.org). Learn how pates, terrines, cured meats and a variety of fine cheeses pair with vino on February 13 from 6:30–8:30 p.m., then unleash your new knowledge down the road at French eatery Petit Robert (468 Commonwealth Ave., 617-375-0699, petitrobertbistro.com).
