True Stories

The Hub’s venerable Boston Globe once again presents the best in documentary filmmaking with the second annual GlobeDocs Film Festival, which takes place September 28–October 2. While most of these true-life narratives are being shown at Brookline’s Coolidge Corner Theatre and the Brattle Theatre in Cambridge’s Harvard Square, the opening night presentations—David Ortiz: The Journey and The David Ortiz Era, both of which chronicle the story of retiring Red Sox star David Ortiz (pictured)—are screened at, appropriately enough, Fenway Park on September 28 at 7 p.m. Most showings are accompanied by post-film discussions with Boston Globe reporters, and several events hosted at WGBH’s Yawkey Theater in Allston are even free. Whether you’re excited to learn a bit of local history or are activated by the hot-button issues of the day, the GlobeDocs Film Festival has something for you.
