Holiday (High)Lights

Faneuil Hall Marketplace—with its wide variety of shops and dining options, not to mention its historic architecture and prime people-watching—would already seem a perfect place to take a stroll this holiday season. For the past four years, however, it has been an even more exciting destination due to the now-annual Blink! festival of lights and sound. Through January 1, visitors can enjoy a dazzling display of more than 350,000 LED bulbs which adorn the area and pulse in time to recorded music from Boston’s beloved Holiday Pops. Shows take place nightly in two locations: the main Christmas tree by Marketplace Center (above) partakes in this tuneful extravaganza every hour from 4:30–9:30 p.m., while a trio of tannenbaums get in on the action by the North Market building hourly from 5–9 p.m. And that’s not all: On December 10 and 17 at 11 a.m., those looking for daylight entertainment for the little ones can enjoy lively, interactive readings of the seasonal classic Frosty the Snowman at the Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop on the second floor of the North Market.
