From Boston and Beyond
Nicholas Nixon, View of Boston Common, 2002
Boston-based photographer Nicholas Nixon has been a renowned figure on the art scene since the 1970s, helping to revive an interest in large-format photography in the U.S. Focusing on personal subjects close to home as well as tackling more universal concerns like the AIDS epidemic, Nixon has amassed an impressive body of work, much of which is on display at the Persistence of Vision exhibit at the Institute of Contemporary Art. Witness the passage of time through his lens, whether it’s his annual portraits of his wife and her sisters—an ongoing project since 1975 that is presented in its entirety—or the changing streets of the city, all in glorious black and white.
