Consisting of special tours, historical re-enactments and more (including fireworks over Boston Harbor on June 30 at 9 p.m.), Boston Harborfest is in full swing through July 5. For those who want to celebrate American independence on the actual day with a bang, the annual Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular on July 4 from 8–11 p.m. at the Hatch Memorial Shell once again features grand, patriotic music conducted by Pops maestro Keith Lockhart and a fireworks finale that lights up the Charles River. Those who attend this free concert can also enjoy guest turns from Newton, Mass.-bred hitmaker Rachel Platten, roots musician extraordinaire Rhiannon Giddens, folk faves the Indigo Girls and Oscar-winning actress Rita Moreno, who appears as part of a centennial tribute to Leonard Bernstein.
