Great gratis entertainment abounds in the Boston area this summer

 

Richard III (pictured): Enjoy veteran stage and screen actor Faran Tahir in the title role as Commonwealth Shakespeare Company rolls out its 24th year of free Shakespeare on the Common from July 18–August 5.


Concerts in the Courtyard: The Boston Public Library hosts free live music—from reggae to jazz and classical to folk—in its gorgeous, historic atrium in Copley Square every Wednesday at 6 p.m. and Friday at 12:30 p.m., with bonus shows on July 16 and July 21 at 12:30 p.m.


Boston Landmarks Orchestra: Beginning July 18, brighten up your Wednesday evenings by taking in the new season of this classical ensemble, which stages no-cost concerts at the DCR Hatch Memorial Shell along the Charles River Esplanade at 7 p.m.


Figment Boston: Head to the Rose Kennedy Greenway July 28 & 29 to take part in this free festival that showcases interactive art installations and activities for all ages.


Revere Beach International Sand Sculpting Festival: Take the Blue Line to the seaside and witness dazzling art emerge from this historic shoreline from July 20–22, as well as a Saturday night fireworks display.
