If you haven’t heard of the beloved cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants, then perhaps you’ve been living, much like the aforementioned fictional sea creature, in a pineapple under the sea since his television debut in 1999. For fans in the Hub, there is now more than just reruns to keep our funnybones from getting brittle as the award-winning Broadway sensation The SpongeBob Musical makes its local premiere from October 15–27 at the Boch Center’s Wang Theatre. Join SpongeBob and compatriots Patrick, Squidward, Sandy and the rest of the denizens of Bikini Bottom as they belt out tunes by some of the greatest songwriters on land or sea—including Sara Bareilles, John Legend, Cyndi Lauper, and Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith—live on stage in what is sure to be an extravaganza of sound, color and unbridled energy to delight young and old alike.
