Your New BFF

It may not be your actual BFF, yet the Boston Film Festival (BFF) arrives like a welcome friend September 22–26 for its 38th edition to delight, entertain and inform the Hub’s film aficionados. Taking place at cinemas, theaters, hotels and even historic sites all over the city, the festival boasts three world premieres (including the comedy Bromates, pictured, directed by Massachusetts native Court Crandall and executive produced and co-starring the one-and-only Snoop Dogg, part of a special night of laughs at the Wilbur Theatre on September 23), two U.S. premieres and one East Coast premiere, as well as the opening night film, Don’t Worry Darling, a 1950s-set mystery/thriller starring Florence Pugh and Harry Styles from actor/producer/director Olivia Wilde. Along the way, expect plenty of appearances by actors and filmmakers participating in post-film Q&A sessions, as well as a free screening of the climate change documentary The Temptation of Trees on September 24 at the venerable Boston Public Library, which plays hosts to environmentally themed programming throughout the event. There’s even a special treat for those on the North Shore, as Rockport’s state-of-the-art Shalin Liu Performance Center hosts a showing of the equine-themed documentary Wild Beauty: The Mustang Spirit of the West on September 23.
