Our kid-friendly picks for winter fun while school is out

Winter Classic Pond Hockey Tournament: The Fenway’s Rink at 401 Park welcomes The Hockey Academy’s eighth annual contest to its open-air ice sheet from February 20–22, inviting a true pond hockey vibe with this 4-on-4 showcase. Although the participants are already set, spectators are encouraged to stop by and enjoy this throwback experience. Head to the nearby Time Out Market Boston pre- or post-game to warm your bones and fuel up.

Engineering Week at Boston Children’s Museum: Participate in special STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) activities at the beloved Fort Point facility from February 20–26 that promote problem solving skills like creative thinking, risk taking and persistence.

Puppet Recess at Puppet Showplace Theater: A great year-round destination for kids’ entertainment, this Brookline venue is home to four days of puppet making and performing classes for kids in grades 1–4 from February 21–24. Led by the venue’s resident artist, Sarah Nolen, the winter version of this fun school vacation program focuses on the art of marionette construction.

Museum of Fine Arts: The venerable Fenway institution has a host of activities for the little ones planned from February 22–25, including art-making workshops, story hours, tours and more.

Disney On Ice (pictured): The TD Garden welcomes Mickey and the gang, who emcee an ice skating spectacular featuring live-action versions of the animated blockbusters Frozen and Encanto from February 22–26.
