Enjoy some fine cinema at these showcases of filmmaking excellence

 

Boston Film Festival: Expect red carpets, celebrity sightings, provocative Q&A sessions and more as the 39th edition of one of the city’s longest-running film showcase takes place September 21–24 at multiple venues in and around the Hub. On opening night, actor Dermot Mulroney is honored at a screening of his latest film, the crime thriller Breakwater, which shows at Rockport’s Shalin Liu Performance Center. There’s also a virtual program available from September 22–30.

 

CineFest Latino Boston: This inaugural event, a full-blown version of screenings first held in 2022, takes place September 27–October 4 and features ticketed film showings at Brookline’s Coolidge Corner Theatre, the Museum of Fine Arts in the Fenway and the Emerson Paramount Theatre in the Theatre District, along with a free movies at City Hall Plaza (including Ariel: Back to Buenos Aires, pictured). Expect features, shorts and documentaries that illuminate the stories of the Latinx community in this country, Latin America and Spain, as well as Q&As with actors, directors and producers.

 

Boston Asian American Film Festival: Now in its 15th year, this lineup is held October 12–22 and once again screens features, shorts and documentaries that encapsulate the Asian experience both here and abroad.

 

GlobeDocs Film Festival: This fall tradition produced by The Boston Globe takes place October 25–29. Join with fellow cinephiles to witness remarkable true stories on the silver screen, followed by discussions with Globe journalists, filmmakers and other special guests.

 

Boston Jewish Film Festival: November 1–15 sees the return of the 35th annual celebration of Jewish film and filmmakers, which presents several premieres alongside special appearances and programming throughout Greater Boston.
