Once again celebrating the power of words and promoting the culture of reading and ideas, the free Boston Book Festival (BBF) returns October 14 to Copley Square (pictured), offering talks by authors and poets of all stripes from across the country and the world, as well as workshops, literary tours of the Back Bay courtesy of Boston By Foot and activities for the kids. The Copley Square Street Fair takes over Dartmouth Street in front of the Boston Public Library, featuring a plethora of local organizations dedicated to writing, education, bookselling, activism and more; food trucks from Roxy’s Grilled Cheese and Zinneken's Waffles; and a Brainstorm Tent hosting arts and crafts and readings for the youngsters. Also enjoy the Berklee Festival Stage, where a variety of musical acts perform from 11 a.m.–5 p.m., and cap off the day with Poems & Pints at 6:30 p.m., a gathering at the Room & Board showroom on Newbury Street of poetry lovers who sip brews while listening to readings from a panel of distinguished wordsmiths. A week later, on October 21 from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. in Roxbury’s Nubian Square, the literary fun continues with the BBF-sponsored JustKids! celebration of books for kids, which boasts appearances by more than a dozen authors of works for the younger generation.
