A mid-fall classic in these parts, the annual Head of the Charles Regatta returns to Boston and Cambridge for its 58th edition October 20–22. Thousands of athletes from across the globe take to the water in a variety of races, cheered on by even more fans who line the banks and bridges of the Charles River to take in this grand spectacle that continues to be the world’s largest two-day rowing event. Beyond the excitement of the contests themselves, there’s plenty of fun geared toward spectators on the Cambridge side of the river, including the Weld Exhibition at Riverbend Park, one of the most popular spots for food, drink and more; Reunion Village, a gathering place for rowers, their families and sculling aficionados located at the course’s halfway point; and the ticketed Eliot Bridge Enclosure at Hospitality Row, where patrons can enjoy exclusive dining and beverage options. Nearby lies Attager Row, the main athlete staging area, which is also home to the traditional Rowing & Fitness Expo at Herter Park, the site of more than 40 rowing-related vendors and sponsor kiosks. From there, it’s a short distance to the finish line, offering a final opportunity to witness the rowers as they battle along the 4,702-meter length of this prestigious test of speed and endurance.
