A dynamic locale like Cambridge’s Harvard Square hardly ever stays still, not even in the throes of winter. As evidence of this, look no further than two upcoming food-related events taking place in the shadow of historic Harvard University. First up is the Taste of Chocolate Weekend, January 26–28, which proves that everyone’s favorite sweet treat isn’t just for Halloween and Valentine’s Day. Duck into select dining destinations and retailers throughout the area to savor a variety of special chocolate dishes, cocktails and treats. For more hardy souls, enjoy a free outdoor tasting of various chocolate goodies January 27 from 1–2 p.m. on Brattle Street between Eliot and Church streets, followed by a street party that continues until 4 p.m.
No need to worry about the temperature as the 14th annual Some Like it Hot Chili Cook-off (pictured) on February 10 is sure to heat things up. Held outside at Brattle Plaza from 1:30–3 p.m., this free extravaganza offers spicy concoctions from the best eateries the neighborhood has to offer. Visitors can then vote for their favorite, which is bestowed with the prestigious Harvard Square Chili Pot at the end of the event.
