High 5: Seasonal Farmers Markets

From fresh local produce to prepared foods, browse a cornucopia of edible items and more at these outdoor shopping destinations

Boston Public Market on the Greenway: The city’s year-round indoor farmers market sponsors this al fresco version, which this year moves from Dewey Square to near the Rings Fountain on the Rose Kennedy Greenway. Every Thursday June 13–October 24 from 2–6 p.m. browse for sweet treats, coffee, hard cider and a wide array of goods from area farms, along with artisanal products from small-batch hot sauces to alpaca fiber products. A kick-off party on opening day celebrates the new location with live music, giveaways and more.

Fish & Farm Market: This new shopping opportunity on the historic Fish Pier in the Seaport gets up and running beginning June 22 and sells the freshest catch of the day alongside fruits, vegetables, meat, cheese, bread, coffee and other specialty goods every Saturday from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. through October 26.

Chinatown Farmers Market: Taking place at the Rose Kennedy Greenway’s Auntie Kay & Uncle Frank Chin Park every other Sunday from July 13–October 19 from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. is this stopover that’s chock full of local vendors offering fresh produce, Chinese vegetables, baked goods and fresh seafood.

Copley Square Farmers Market: Load up for a picnic at the nearby Charles River Esplanade at this longtime hot spot across from the Boston Public Library, which offers straight-from-the-farm fruits and vegetables, baked goods, local honey, colorful flowers, ocean-fresh fish and even prepared Indian delicacies, among other delectable items available from 11 a.m.–6 p.m. every Tuesday and Friday from May 17–November 26.

SoWa Open Market (pictured): Every Sunday from 11 a.m.–4 p.m. through October 27, the South End open-air tradition continues to host regional vendors selling art, vintage goods, an international smorgasbord from a variety of food trucks and, yes, a farmers market boasting seasonal produce and specialty food items.
