The largest rowing event of its kind in the world, the Head of the Charles Regatta has been going strong since its inception in 1965. Taking place October 18–20, this three-day extravaganza of athletic prowess attracts more than 12,000 top competitors to the banks of the Charles River for races ranging from singles to eights at levels from youth to seniors. For the tens of thousands of spectators, there are a plethora of opportunities to cheer on the rowers while enjoying the lively atmosphere at the many bridges crossing the river, as well as at several encampments along both the Cambridge and Boston sides, including the start line at the Boston University DeWolfe Boathouse, the Weld Exhibition at Riverbend Park, the Reunion Village at the halfway point, the Eliot Bridge Enclosure at Hospitality Row and the Rowing & Fitness Expo near the Herter Park finish line.
