For the ninth year, the free Boston Book Festival comes to Copley Square with a stellar lineup of authors who lead panels, give lectures and read from their latest works. Officially opening October 28, the event nevertheless kicks off the night prior with a special reading at Old South Meeting House featuring four speakers, including former NFL player and astronaut Leland Melvin. The next day, talents ranging from thriller writer and former Bostonian Dennis Lehane (pictured) and children’s book author Lemony Snicket to acclaimed Hub chefs/cookbook creators Joanne Chang and Karen Akunowicz appear at a variety of venues, accompanied by a Copley Square street fair from 11 a.m.–5 p.m. boasting independent publishers, local arts organizations, food vendors and a kids area.
