The annual Santa Speedo Run is the season’s most whimsical—and bizarre—spectacle
Depending on your feelings about the sight of hundreds of nearly naked runners bolting down prominent Back Bay boulevards, the annual Santa Speedo Run (978-254-5702, ssrunners.org) is either the season’s most bizarre or whimsical spectacle. Regardless, this charity fundraiser that consists of men and women (barely) dressed in tiny red swimwear and furry Santa hats enters its 20th year on December 14 when the erstwhile St. Nicks sprint down Boylston Street and back up Newbury Street, with pre- and post-run fun at the start/finish line at Back Bay Social Club (867 Boylston St., 617-247-3200, backbaysocialclub.com), all to benefit the Play Ball! Foundation, which provides Boston middle school students the opportunity to build friendships and character through the teamwork, communication and discipline lessons provided by sports.
