Outdoor Winter Fun in the Hub

For those that want to get active, hitting the slopes to the north and west of Boston is always a good idea during the colder months. Frigid fun can be found, however, without leaving the confines of the Hub—in addition to five outdoor skating rinks in the area, two additional chances at al fresco frivolity can be found in Boston's Seaport. Snow fanatics need not worry about skis at Harpoon Brewery’s new Slopeside attraction (pictured), which boasts three lanes of snow-tubing excitement on an artificial hill built right next to the facility. Open until the end of February, this thrilling blast of chilly joy can be paired with classic beer hall snacks and sudsy beverages. Although geared toward the 21-plus crowd, this experience is open to kids accompanied by an adult as well.

Train for the next Winter Olympics at the Seaport’s Snowport area, which continues to offer Iceless Curling through February 25. Fun for the entire family, this sporting opportunity is open seven days a week, with lessons offered on select Saturdays.

Sometimes the best part of being outdoors this time of year is warming up indoors. For that, look no further than the nearby Rose Kennedy Greenway, which hosts the Moki Sauna Village across from the Boston Harbor Hotel. Bring your bathing suit and book a wood-fired sauna—complete with a cold plunge, changing room, rinsing station and more—at this unique relaxation opportunity all season long.
