The most adorable event on the local calendar is almost upon us as the annual Duckling Day once again marches upon the paths of Boston Common and the Public Garden on May 11. A simultaneous celebration of spring, Mother’s Day and Robert McCloskey’s timeless, Boston-set children’s classic Make Wake for Ducklings, this cavalcade of costumed cuteness features a marching band and youngsters adorned as their favorite characters from the story, all emceed by local Emmy Award-winning newscaster Rhondella Richardson. The fun begins at 10 a.m. on the Common next to the Parkman Bandstand, where families gather and enjoy lawn games, magic, face painting, storytelling, live music and dance, and other kid-centered activities. Later, registered guests make their way along the path taken by Mr. and Mrs. Mallard toward the Public Garden, the home of the beloved statue commemorating McCloskey’s tale and the end point for a wonderful morning for both the young and young at heart.
