A Trip Back in Time

A late summer/early fall tradition in eastern Massachusetts is on the move, as the 44th annual King Richard’s Faire gets a bit of a makeover as it settles into its new home at Carver’s recently re-christened, historic Edaville Entertainment Venue August 30–October 19. The largest Renaissance fair in New England, King Richard’s Faire boasts its usual array of jousts, jugglers, magic acts, jesters, psychics, puppets and the like, along with new entertainment options that include a Broadway-style musical, a daring acrobatic act, several first-time music performers and more. Old favorites such as the wide array of hearty culinary and beverage choices—which, of course, include plenty of giant turkey legs and mead to honor the theme—and an artisans market offering hand-crafted goodies from elaborate costumes and jewelry to musical instruments and blacksmith-forged arms are also on hand. And for the more adventurous, there’s even axe throwing, archery and a ride known only as the Hurlinator that likely doesn’t mix well with the aforementioned food and drink combo. Open weekends and holidays, King Richard’s Faire is one trip back in time that’s worth the journey south of Boston.
