High 5: Holiday Lights

Bask in the yuletide glow at these ceremonies that help kick off the season of cheer

Tree Lighting at Quincy Market: Get a jump on the holiday festivities as historic Faneuil Hall Marketplace gets in the spirit on November 22 beginning at 2 p.m. with performances by a half dozen local arts organizations, visits from Santa and Miss Boston 2025, treats and face painting for the kids, and the lighting of its 50-foot evergreen at 6 p.m.

Christopher Columbus Park Holiday Trellis Lighting (pictured): Head to the North End on November 24 from 5–6 p.m. to witness the illumination of the iconic blue lights at this waterfront destination, accompanied by holiday sing-alongs; refreshments like clam chowder, cookies and hot cocoa; and even a visit from St. Nick.

Charles Hotel Tree Lighting: The tradition continues at the courtyard of this Harvard Square landmark when its tree blazes with seasonal cheer at the annual celebration on November 29 from 4–7 p.m. Also enjoy a holiday market, a visit from Santa and perhaps a few surprises.

Boston Common Tree Lighting: Mingle with throngs of holiday enthusiasts as the city’s official tree, an annual gift from Nova Scotia, inaugurates the yuletide when the 2025 lighting ceremony takes place December 4 from 6–8 p.m.

Light Up Seaport: On December 5 from 5–8 p.m., this vibrant neighborhood alongside historic Boston Harbor hosts holiday tunes, appearances by Betty the Yeti and a tree lighting at 7:20 p.m. Come back on December 21 for the annual lighting of the Seaport’s nine-foot Menorah.
