Along with the leaves starting to turn color, one of the sure signs of fall in Eastern Massachusetts is the advent of King Richard’s Faire, the region’s premier Renaissance festival. Taking place in Carver from September 2–October 22, this fun celebration of olden-time kings, queens, minstrels, jesters and the like enters its 42nd year on the South Shore. Along with enjoying the antics of dancers, acrobats, magicians, fire-eaters and jousting knights, time-traveling visitors can feast on turkey legs, chowder and stew while washing them down with ale, wine, cocktails, cider or mead. There are even arts and crafts for sale, including period clothing and armor, as well as blacksmith demonstrations, fortune tellers and a frolicking fairy or two. The tradition of the performance of an original musical production mixing medieval and modern themes also continues, so brush up your thees and thous and get in on the revelry while experiencing the weekend festivities of this longtime favorite.
