This spooky season, take in these one-of-a-kind celebrations in the Boston area

Salem Haunted Happenings: This October-long showcase for everything eerie takes over the heart of Witch City, highlighted by The Grand Parade (October 3) and a Zombie Walk (October 5) alongside séances, costume parties, film screenings, haunted houses, hair-raising tours and even a marketplace full of hand-crafted goods and spellbinding treats.

Play It By Fear (pictured): Boston’s Seaport hosts this second annual family-friendly concert on October 18 at 6 p.m. at The Rocks at Harbor Way. Enjoy spooky and seasonal jams from string quartet Glass Artists, an art exhibit of phantasmagoric figures, and free popcorn and treats, along with a beer garden courtesy of Provincetown Brewing for the grown-ups. The show is free, yet reservations are recommended.

Jamaica Plain Canine Costume Parade: Head to this hip neighborhood October 26 at noon for the 20th anniversary of this cavalcade of doggone adorableness. The procession of elaborately adorned pups, led by the JP Honk Band, heads down Centre Street at 1 p.m. to the Loring Greenough House, where a red carpet and prizes for the top three pooches awaits. Proceeds from parade registrations benefit the City of Boston Animal Shelter.

Doggone Halloween Parade: More cute and creepy canines dress to impress October 26 from noon–3 p.m. in this 10th annual Downtown Boston block party complete with family activities, treats and prizes for Best Costume, Scariest Costume, Cutest Costume, Best Dog & Human Duo, and Best Dog & Child Duo.

Faneuil Hall-oween: Historic shopping and dining destination Faneuil Hall Marketplace is the site of another pet costume contest, which promises celebrity judges, treats and more on October 27 from 11 a.m.–1 p.m.
