Haymakers for Hope, a charity organization that gathers together amateur boxers to compete and raise funds to defeat cancer, returns for its ninth annual Belles of the Brawl September 29, setting up its ring at the brand-new, state-of-the-art MGM Music Hall in the Fenway. The dozen all-female bouts feature participants who have gone through four months of intensive training at local gyms, where they are matched up with opponents of similar size and skill levels for the main event. Fully sanctioned by USA Boxing, the contests are scheduled as three, two-minute rounds. So far, the would-be pugilists for the Hub extravaganza have garnered in excess of $250,000 in donations, adding to Haymakers for Hope’s total of more than $20 million raised since its inception in 2010 for cancer research, care, awareness and survivorship, benefitting such well-known difference-makers as Boston’s own Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Come add your own dollars to the final sum and witness for yourself why fighting for a good cause has never been so literal.
