Whoa, Mama!

Mike Diskin

The long-awaited second restaurant from renowned chef Tiffany Faison finally opened in December, not far from her first eatery, the acclaimed Fenway barbecue hot spot Sweet Cheeks. Her new place, Tiger Mama (1363 Boylston St., 617-425-MAMA, tigermamaboston.com), follows in Sweet Cheeks’ footsteps with its tongue-in-cheek moniker and fun atmosphere; that, however, is where the similarities end. Tiger Mama eschews brisket and pulled pork in favor of a Southeast Asian-inspired menu featuring such delicacies as crispy papaya salad, sticky ginger wings, shrimp Saigon (pictured) and lobster curry, all served in a space with a tropical vibe. Plates range from small to large, banquet-style dishes, allowing diners to mix it up with their meals just as Tiger Mama’s cuisine plays mix-and-match with the flavors of Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam.
