Winter into early spring brings back two of the city’s premier wine-focused events sure to tantalize both novice and expert oenophiles alike. First up is the Boston Harbor Hotel’s long-running Boston Wine & Food Festival (pictured), which kicks off January 31 and runs through March 27. Packed with special dinners, wine tastings, classes and more, this feast for the senses explores the world of wine from Europe to California and features such highlights as the Nebbiolo Master Class on February 8, a Valentines on the French Riviera gathering on (naturally) February 14, the popular Battle of the Cabernets Dinner on February 27 and the indulgent Opus One Seminar & Reserve Dinner on March 27.

Just as spring is (hopefully) bringing its gentle warmth to the region, the Boston Wine Expo takes up residence at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel. The centerpiece is the Grand Tasting, which takes place April 5 & 6 at 1:30 & 4:30 p.m. and offers pours from more than 100 international wineries. As a complementary experience, the Expo also hosts four different wine classes over the weekend, all led by experts who impart their wisdom while sharing sips from Spain, Australia and France.
