Art for a Cause
Marian Dioguardi, My Cups Runneth Over

There have been a lot of firsts during the challenging times in which we find ourselves, and yet another one takes place November 9–23 when the 38th annual SMFA Art Sale goes virtual for this year’s version of its signature fundraising event. Benefitting contributing artists and scholarships at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University, the sale features a diverse array of work from more than 300 students, alumni, faculty and friends of the institution, including such luminaries as Lalla Essaydi, Tara Donovan, Donald Gorvett, Ellsworth Kelly, Alex Katz, Sol LeWitt, John Baldessari, Jim Dow and Richard Serra. As an addendum, the special Exquisite Corpse Project—in which several artists, using a technique developed by the Surrealists a century ago, contribute to a single image relating to the pandemic—contributes framed works that to go up for sale online every three days. Whether shopping for established artists or relative unknowns from the next generation of professionals, every art lover can find something truly unique to add to their collection—and all for a good cause.
